Get Your ID Card Ready

Valid identification is required for notarial services involving signature verification. California recognizes the following forms of identification as valid, provided they are either current or issued within the last five years.

Driver's License or ID Card issued by the California DMV
United States passport
California state inmate ID card for incarcerated signers
Any form of inmate ID card issued by a sheriff’s department, if the inmate is in custody in a local detention facility
With the following, valid IDs must include a photo, personal description, signature, and ID number.
Valid consular ID document or passport issued by the applicant's country of citizenship
Driver's license issued by another state or by an authorized Canadian or Mexican public agency
ID card issued by another state
US Military identification card
Employee identification card issued by the State of California or by a city, county in California.
ID issued by a federally recognized tribal government

7 Questions to Prepare Before Our Meeting

To ensure a smooth and efficient appointment, please review the following items in advance:

1. Valid Identification – Make sure all signers have a valid ID.
2. Type of Notarial Act – Is this an acknowledgment, jurat, or another type of service?
3. Document Readiness – Are all documents complete and ready?
4. Signer Availability – Will all required signers be present?
5. Witness Availability – If witnesses are needed, will they be available at the appointment?
6. Time Allocation – Has enough uninterrupted time been set aside for the appointment?
7. Fee Agreement – Have the notary fees been confirmed and agreed upon?
